Encompassing two reservoirs and multiple meadows, the park is a haven for deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, black bears, coyotes, and other wild animals. The park is also home to bald and golden eagles, hawks, and other birds of prey. The two waterways, Little Bear and Big Bear are both stocked with rainbow, brown, brook, and cutthroat trout. Big Bear Lake has an easily accessible boat launch. The lake also has plenty of sand bars and islands for swimming, fishing, and simply enjoying the day. The surrounding trails and meadows provide easy access to breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains. The 5.5-mile Bear Loop Trail, which passes Little Bear and Big Bear lakes, is especially known for its beautiful views of the mountains. The park also provides performance areas, picnic grounds and shelters, and sheltered and uncovered campsites that can accommodate large groups or individuals.
